Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are some of the safest modalities of
medicine out there. With acupuncture only sterile, stainless steel,
disposable needles [single use] are used. There is little or no side
effects; the only ones noted being soreness around the points and
occasionally bruising. With Chinese herbal medicine the herbal formulas
rarely cause any side effects. Some of this is due to using the whole
herb / plant as opposed to using an “active ingredient” by it self in
an ultra-concentrated form, such as Aspirin. What can acupuncture and chinese medicine treat? Everything. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can be used in the treatment of any condition. Often as the only therapy, but many times as part of a comprehensive treatment strategy using it in conjunction with other types of medicine. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can treat both acute and chronic conditions ranging from colds and flus to chronic eczema or arthritis. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are perhaps best known for the treatment of pain and musculoskeletal conditions. For a more complete list of conditions that are effectively treated with either acupuncture or Chinese medicine see Conditions Treated page. [Back To Top] What are acupuncture and Chinese medicine? Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are different from western medicine in many ways. For one it does not rely on harsh drugs or surgery. Chinese medicine is an energetic medicine that utilizes fine needles inserted at certain points on the body to balance and harmonize your body so that it can heal itself. Chinese medicine also includes the use of herbal formulas as well as Tui Na [Chinese Massage], Cupping, and Moxibustion, all of which help your body heal itself. [Back To Top] Is Chinese medicine a good fit for me? It is important to get an evaluation / consultation with a licensed acupuncturist and together you can decide if acupuncture is a good fit for your specific conditions. [Back To Top]
What should I wear to my treatment? For your treatment of acupuncture you should wear loose, comfortable clothes. This will make it easier to get on and off the treatment table as well as making it easier to access the points needed. For some conditions it may be necessary to remove some clothing for evaluation and/or treatment, gowns are utilized as well as draping and at all times I will take every step to respect your privacy. Communication is key to making you completely comfortable during your treatment so please let me know if you are uncomfortable at any time. If it makes you more comfortable you can bring a friend or family member to stay with you in the treatment room. [Back to Top]What is the difference between group and private treatments? Group treatments are done in lounge chairs with several people in the same room. The intake / interview process is quicker and there is no disrobing. Only distal points on the arms, legs, head, ears, and shoulders are used. The cost of these treatments is less and there is less personal attention but it is a good option for some patients. Group treatments are a great way to maintain your health and keep the cost down. Private treatments are done in a room by yourself. The intake / interview is more indepth and there is more time spent on lifestyle, emotional aspects, and it may be easier to discuss the delicate nature of some conditions. Both are good treatment options but group treatments are better suited to musculoskeletal pain and injury and less complicated conditions as the points are limited and there is not adequate time to do as complete of an interview. Private treatments are better for complex problems, conditions with emotional aspects or conditions of a private nature. Also, private treatments allow access to back points as well as the ability to use Tui Na [Chinese Massage], Moxibustion, Gua Sha, and Herbal Medicine. [Back to Top] |
