Serving Waynesville, North Carolina and Haywood County | On your first visit we will do a thorough health history and interview to get a good idea of what your condition is. After
that I will conduct a physical examination that will include feeling
your pulses, looking a your tongue and palpating the channels / areas
involved in your condition. Though some of the examinations in Chinese
medicine may be unfamiliar to you , you should be comfortable with the
entire process. If anything makes you uncomfortable at any time during
the visit please let me know. After the evaluation is done, I will explain if I believe Chinese medicine to be useful for your condition. If I don't feel that it is I may recommend another form of therapy / treatment. If Chinese medicine is appropriate for your condition we can discuss how frequent the treatments should be and how many are necessary. If you have any questions at any point throughout this process please feel free to ask. Next, if we decide Chinese medicine is right for you we can proceed with the treatment. If we decide Chinese medicine is not appropriate then there will be no charge for the visit. You do not have to make a decision right away, you can make another appointment or call back at a later time if you decide you want to begin treatment. If we decide on treatment then we will discuss the fees as well as the type of treatment(s) that are right for your condition. During the treatment you will generally lie on a treatment table though some treatments are done sitting in a lounge chair. Needles about the thickness of a human hair are inserted at specific acupuncture points on the body. Tui Na [Chinese Massage] may also be used if it is appropriate and you are comfortable with it. You will relax with the needles for anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. If you desire, soothing music will be played while you relax. If at any point during the treatment you are uncomfortable or need anything I will attend to your needs immediately. If other treatment methods such as cupping, applying a partial vacuum to the body with glass cups, moxibustion, burning the Chinese herb mugwort near specific acupuncture points, or gua sha, a gentle scraping technique along the skin, are appropriate then they will be discussed and if agreed upon utilized. After your treatment you will feel relaxed and often it is a good idea to sit quietly for a few minutes before driving home. Resting and relaxing after a treatment will ensure that you get the most out of your treatment. |
